Sheridan Park Association - Standing Committees
Science and Technology Committee

The Committee is composed of members from each resident company who meet on a monthly basis to organize upcoming events and to plan future activities.

A majority of the initiatives sponsored by the Committee are held on an annual basis. Events falling into this category include the annual Sheridan Park Newsletter, that provides a forum for companies to communicate their successes, report on changes within their company and to share other newsworthy stories. The Newsletter is distributed in the spring to all member employees.

Another yearly event is the Technical Achievement Award that is awarded to the member company whose winning submission describes a project which combines outstanding technical achievement with commercial success. The winning company is presented with a trophy during the annual Sheridan Park Association Luncheon held in the fall. The luncheon is highlighted by a technical presentation by a member of the winning team.

Our activity also includes the organization of the annual Science and Society Lecture, which hosts world-class speakers who provide their thoughts/views on some aspect of science as it interfaces with societal issues, within their particular area of expertise. This event is held usually in June. An typical speaker was David Breashears who directed and photographed an IMAX feature film during a climb of Mount Everest.

While the focus of our efforts have centred on these annual events, the Committee has also hosted various special events including a video-conferencing demonstration, an internet training session and most recently, a technical poster session.

On a less formal basis, this Committee also acts as a conduit of technical information of general interest within Sheridan Park, such as the Committee's promotion of member companies' invited lectureship programs and the Quality Forum video broadcast.
